Introducing Soundtreks for Performing Arts Directors
August 31, 2026
For performing arts directors, a great trip has never been just about the destination.
It is about giving students something meaningful to prepare for, building confidence, strengthening ensemble identity, and creating experiences students will remember forever.
But what if the trip could keep working for your program after everyone comes home?
This is the idea behind Soundtreks, a new performing arts travel experience from Orange Sky Travel that combines professional recording, student travel, and cinematic filmmaking into a completely different type of music performance trip.
Your students do not simply visit an unforgettable destination.
They create something there.
Soundtreks gives today’s students an extraordinary experience while creating professional media directors can use to show tomorrow’s students what being part of the program can lead to. The finished content can support feeder-school recruiting, registration nights, concerts, social media, parent meetings, booster engagement, and school communications.
Show, Not Just Tell.
Student travel already creates aspiration.
Younger students hear older students talk about New York, Washington, Orlando, or another major trip and begin imagining themselves having that experience someday.
Soundtreks makes that aspiration visible.
Instead of saying, “You should have seen what we did last year,” directors can show future students their own ensemble performing somewhere extraordinary.
They see the friendships, the preparation, the professionalism, the behind the scenes, and the finished production. Suddenly, joining the program is not an abstract idea.
They can picture themselves in it.
That is why Soundtreks is designed to be more than a souvenir. It is a program-building resource directors can keep using long after the trip ends.
How Soundtreks Works: Record. Travel. Film. Share.
The process is intentionally straightforward for directors.
Record. Before the trip, a Soundtreks audio engineer professionally records your selected piece at your school and creates the finished master track.
Travel. Orange Sky Travel builds the student trip around your ensemble, your goals, and the destination. Soundtreks becomes one important part of the experience, not the entire itinerary.
Film. On location, a Soundtreks filmmaker leads the production and captures your students bringing their professionally recorded performance to life.
Share. After the trip, directors receive professional digital content designed to be used for recruiting, social media, concerts, websites, family engagement, and program promotion.
The result is simple:
The performance ends. The content keeps working.
Imagine Your Students Here
One of the most important and exciting parts of Soundtreks is that the destination becomes part of the performance.
Initial filming concepts include:
- the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina
- the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
- Central Park in New York City
- Hunting Island State Park in Beaufort, South Carolina
- locations featuring the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco
Exact filming locations depend on availability, permissions, permitting, group size, and production requirements, all of which Orange Sky helps coordinate.
The creative question is simple:
Where would your music come alive?
It Started at Biltmore
The first Soundtreks demonstration brought that idea to life with the Asheville High School Band at Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina.
Biltmore is an especially exciting setting for Soundtreks because it offers much more than a generic backdrop. It gives a student production a sense of scale, place, and occasion.
The initial demo showed how powerful that combination can be, and we are excited about how welcoming Biltmore can be as a future Soundtreks setting as productions and permissions are coordinated.
The new Biltmore Soundtreks materials capture the idea well:
Give today’s students an experience they’ll never forget and tomorrow’s students a program they’ll want to join.
A New Tool for Recruiting and Growing Your Music Program
Every director is thinking about the next group.
Who is coming from the feeder school? Who is registering next year? Who is staying in the program? How do you communicate the value of the ensemble to parents, administrators, boosters, and the broader school community?
Soundtreks gives directors another way to answer those questions.
Imagine using your Soundtrek during a feeder-school visit, before a concert, during course registration, or across social media.
Imagine a younger student watching and thinking:
“I want to be part of that.”
Soundtreks cannot replace great teaching or intentional recruiting, but it can give directors something they have rarely had before: a professionally produced, highly shareable video of what joining the program can lead to.
You Lead the Music. We Build the Experience Around It.
You know your students, your music, and your artistic vision.
Orange Sky coordinates the travel, recording, destination, filming location, schedule, production logistics, and overall experience.
And Soundtreks does not take over the trip.
Students still explore the destination, spend time together, experience major attractions, and make the memories that have always made performing arts travel meaningful.
It should make the trip better, not busier.
Where Could Your Program Go Next?
Soundtreks represents a new kind of performing arts travel experience.
It gives students something extraordinary to work toward.
It gives directors something powerful to bring home.
And it gives future students a chance to see what being part of your program could lead to.
From Biltmore Estate to Washington, D.C., New York City, the South Carolina coast, San Francisco, and destinations still to be imagined, the question is no longer simply:
Where should we take our students?
It can also be:
What could our students create when we get there?
